career day

Hi kids! Oh, how nice of you. Please, hold your applause, I’m blushing. Well, thanks for having me guys, really. It’s always been a dream of mine as a father to speak at my son’s Career Day - Hi, Kevin. Where should I begin? Well, I’ll start with my job. I’m a doctor, a hematologist specifically, over at Quincy Hospital. I’m in my fourth month on the job now, after eleven years of practice, which is older than most of you guys!

Anyways, as a hematologist, I specialize in hematology, which is the study and research of blood. I work at blood banks, where I study blood cells, help find cures for blood diseases, assist with blood transfusions, and draw blood from patients. I also package and transport the blood, as well as keep it preserved. Any of you kids see Saw or The Walking Dead? Too adult for you, I suppose. Anyways, the sight of blood in abundant amounts like that makes me woozy.

I have gotten in trouble because of that a couple of times. I’ve had a few patients who’ve fainted when they see their own blood, and that shit was hilarious. Last week, my patient fainted upon seeing his own blood, and I laughed so hard I accidentally knocked the syringe loose. Blood sprayed all around the room, and I got lightheaded and ended up fainting too. So, there we were, two unconscious grownups getting drenched in blood - not a pretty sight.

Now, now, some of you look frightened. My job is not scary at all. Plus, you learn how to locate and identify all the veins in your body! So, if you have any questions, want to donate blood, or would even like to know your blood type, please let me know. All I got to do to get your blood is a pop a syringe in your arm, draw your blood for a couple minutes, and that’s it! Hope to see some of you soon!
